Since these pro environment users tend to have all the kit going and by that I mean they have virtually all the 3rd Party Audio Units and all the Mics and all the Interfaces going etc etc etc - they will find out what's good and what's bad fast, you can make more of an informed choice then if you take note of their advice. Many of the more experienced users who run Logic in pro studios and always do fast upgrades will drop the news of their experiences within days of release. I shall also wait for all the 3rd Party software providers to confirm they have updated their software and it's all compatible before spending the cash on a new Machine etc etc etc.

Once again I am waiting for the next Logic and I will check these forums to see how all those who upgrade immediately get on with whatever is the current OS at the time with Logic 10 or X or whatever they call it. I watched the threads here and witnessed all the problems users had and was so glad I didnt jump in on a new Purchase then during that wave. Having been bitten once I avoided moving to Lion and Logic 9 and stayed with Logic 8 and Snow Leopard. It's tricky making a choice like you are.

I can not comment on the laptop sizes, I have no experience of them running Logic.

I'd consider that more important than screen size and the entry level iMac 21.5" is enough, the larger 27" screen is more luxury really than requirement. For example I got stung by buying loads of Audio Units just before Apple went Intel Only and I had to buy a new Machine and new Software - so now I am once bitten twice shy about such things.Īnother important issue is the Memory you have on any machine. Would you be happy to buy a machine now and just pay to upgrade Logic when the next release is out.Īlso consider any additional software such as Audio Units. When Lion was first released many users had various issues that gave people headaches so consider checking where that ground is now, have all those issues been resolved or will they be resolved soon. Would you be happy buying a current model running Logic 9 with Lion/Mountain Lion, if you expect there to be a new Model relased and a new Logic released in the Autumn for example.Ĭheck these forums for issues relating to Lion and Logic 9 and 3rd party software. It's up to you of course to make your own mind up. Of course, this is not guaranteed info - it's just their judgement of product cycles and it's their 'educated guess' - nothing more - but the staff there do know what they are talking about. They suggested holding off for a few months as they are expecting new Laptops to be released soon and they are also expecting a new version of Logic. I was in an Apple Authorized store a few weeks back discussing a similar issue with the staff their.
